STRING PUPPETRY
CARVED MARIONETTES & CROSSBAR STRING CONTROL
Sculpting articulated lime wood figures with weighted joints, lead-balanced feet, and multithreaded wooden airplane controls that translate human breath into graceful kinetic motion.
There is an ancient, uncanny magic when an inanimate figure carved from wood and cloth suddenly moves with independent will. In the Wolfesque universe, puppetry is the bridge where sculpture becomes performance, allowing creatures and fairytale archetypes to physically inhabit our world.
Formed in the wolfesque style, our puppetry craft unites the physical modeling of Sculpture and Crafts with the visual life of Character Design, the frame craft of Animation, and the stagecraft of Theatre.
Six core artistic and mechanical disciplines guide our marionettes, shadow figures, and creature animatronics.
STRING PUPPETRY
Sculpting articulated lime wood figures with weighted joints, lead-balanced feet, and multithreaded wooden airplane controls that translate human breath into graceful kinetic motion.
MECHANICAL LIFE
Engineering cable-driven facial servos, blinking glass eyes, flexible silicone skin, and pneumatic breathing ribcages that grant practical on-set creatures organic realism.
LIGHT & SHADOW
Crafting delicate pierced parchment and dyed translucent leather silhouettes operated behind backlit oiled screens to evoke ancient mythic folklore.
ENSEMBLE PERFORMANCE
Collaborative multi-operator tabletop puppetry where performers maintain physical contact with the figure, creating subtle, emotionally resonant character acting.
FRAME-BY-FRAME
Machining stainless steel ball-and-socket skeletons padded with cast foam latex, hand-painted skin washes, and bespoke miniature costumes for screen animation.
STAGE CRAFT
Using black velvet masking, forced-perspective miniature stages, low-angle footlights, and synchronized live voice performance to bring the inanimate to life.
