PIGMENT
Painting
Oil, watercolor, observational seeing, chiaroscuro, and the studio problem of turning light into matter.
Open Painting →Art on this site is not a vague promise that imagination will come alive. It is oil glaze and graphite, crosshatching, botanical plates, sequential panels, camera stills, and the historical traditions those practices come from. A visitor should leave knowing which room holds painting, which holds comics, and which holds storybook illustration.
Keep the neighbors distinct. Design is systems and use: type, interiors, grids, spatial plans. Crafts are workshop methods and physical making. Art is the image, the looking, the artist, and the tradition. Printmaking as a press craft lives under crafts; the printed image as visual culture still belongs in this conversation.
The Gallery is the exhibition room. This page is the map of practices. Both belong to the wolfesque aesthetic, but a Rackham plate, a painted still life, and a comic gutter are not the same job.
Each discipline has a different tool and a different history of seeing.
